May 2017

The May Sunday Offering recipient is the American Civil Liberties Union of Washington Foundation. The Foundation is the tax-deductible, 501(c)(3) arm of the ACLU that supports the organization’s litigation and public education activities.

The ACLU protects America’s original civic values by working in courts, legislatures, and communities to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in the United States by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. These are the lawyers for the immigrants, the lawyers for Standing Rock participants, the warriors fighting for justice for all. The Foundation is considerably larger than the organizations we usually support, but the Sunday Offerings Committee felt that a strong advocate in the national arena would be a worthy recipient to support our mission of living our vision of a just and sustainable world.

What is the Sunday Offering?

When the baskets are passed during Sunday services, people contribute cash and checks to help the recipient organization which was chosen for that month. Checks written to “EUUC” with “cause” on the memo line and all cash are tallied each Sunday. At the end of the month, a check is written for the recipient organization.
