The Building Bridges workshop is this coming Saturday, May 21. This is a joint effort between UUSC, East Shore, University, Edmonds UU, and several Muslim groups. John Tucker, our UUSC rep, has participated in organizing it, and Eric will deliver closing remarks in the afternoon. Download a flyer.
The planning team has worked very hard to create a program that will help participants understand what it feels like to be Muslim in America, in order to build bridges of understanding and action, standing for the civil liberties of all. The keynote speaker is James Yee, former Muslim Chaplain at Guantanamo, and there are several other excellent speakers and thought-provoking breakout groups.
The location is East Shore Unitarian. Registration is at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/166272. You can also register at the door, but it would be helpful for their planning if you register on-line. Because of space limitations in the afternoon, they designed a program whereby you can register for morning, afternoon, or both. Morning is free, and will be a series of speakers; afternoon is $5, which includes lunch and facilitated discussions, and shared prayer and meditation. I have attached the flier and workshop schedule, which you can also find on the registration site.
Would you please forward this to anyone who might be interested? This includes your committees, friends, neighbors, colleagues, other faith groups, businesses, your local city council, police, fire, etc. (with the opening paragraphs edited appropriately to your audience, of course)
Thank you!
Cindy Creager, chair, and the Peace and Justice Committee at EUUC
