EUUC University of Music

March 9th, 2011 by Barbara Purn

Wow, Steve Ernst’s Testimonial at last week’s service really made an impression on me. It helped me realize all the free music instruction and enjoyment I am getting out of EUUC. That analogy resonated with me—it is like a University.

Steve made reference to some of the benefits we get, like joining Joyful Noise or the monthly Open Mic nights but there is so much more. I love being in the choir and drum circle (I think we are now calling ourselves the Tribe!), under the fantastic direction of Wil. Of course there is also Vespers each month, which has a musical element as well as meditation. Youth choir, the Fa-La Sisterhood, singing lessons, plus of course guest violinists, cellists, flutists and our fabulous pianist Tomoko are also parts of the music curriculum. How lucky we are, even if we don’t participate one of the groups but only listen!

Continuing the University theme, there are so many non-music classes that are offered for next-to-nothing fees, free groups to join like writing club, knitting, quilting, sewing, movie nights, book club, committees to help with, so you feel good about your contributions to our planet, folk dancing and many more I am surely leaving out.

If one were to take advantage of all that EUUC offers, you’d be quite ‘slammed busy’ day and night, just like a college student. I wonder what the degree would be—BA in Living Life the EUUC way? Anyway you look at it, it’s a bargain and well worth any price!
