Our Whole Lives (OWL)

Grades 7 - 9

When is OWL offered?

The OWL - Our Whole Lives FAITH BASED sexuality education program for 7th -9th graders is offered every other year. Edmonds often collaborates with one or two other area UU churches to offer enrolled youth the opportunity to meet other young teen UU's in our general area. OWL will be offered outside of sunday morning in the 2014-2015, 2017-2017 church year and so on.

What do they learn?

The Our Whole Lives (OWL) sexuality course for students in Grades 7 through 9 teaches youth to understand relationships, to clarify their values, and to understand the emotional and social aspects of sexual relationships. The course covers a variety of topics such as abstinence, family types, sexual orientation, love, and commitment. Edmonds UU Church offers the OWL program every other year in collaboration with other area churches. This program is scheduled outside of Sunday morning Religious Education classes. Learn more about OWL on the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) website.

What ages can enroll?

This Junior Youth course is strictly for youth in Grades 7 through 9.  Enrollment requires parental permission following a mandatory parent orientation. There is typically an enrollment feiday into Saturday overnights.

What is the cost?

The registration fee varies a bit, based partly on the size of the class. The fee helps cover costs for materials, food and contributes to the cost of training the facilitators. The registration fee ranges from $50 to $80 per child and scholarship support/reduced fee is always a possibility, ask the DLRE.
