A message from EUUCs Advocates for Women committee
Help Keep Planned Parenthood Doors Open
Since 1970, federal Title X funds have provided family planning services, cancer screenings, STD testing and treatment, and general women’s health exams to lower-income women. These funds are already prohibited from being used for abortion services. The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has proposed a rule that is intended to close Planned Parenthood health centers but ignores the devastating impact upon their patients. Please tell HHS that you oppose the rule.
This “gag rule” would prohibit facilities receiving Title X from providing abortion services, referring patients for abortion, or even counseling patients that they may consider having an abortion. Title X patients would no longer be able to receive family planning and preventive care at Planned Parenthood centers and other facilities unable to comply with the new requirements. People of color would be especially impacted. In addition, HHS looks to shift funds to organizations that only counsel about less reliable family planning methods, such as the rhythm method and abstinence. The Advocates for Women committee encourages you to tell HHS that you oppose the rule. Submit your comments here using Advocates for Women as the Organization. Deadline: July 31, 2018.
