Money in Politics
Money has a corrupting influence in politics
On January 12, 2014 our congregation voted to take a stand regarding the corrupting influence of money in politics. Together we approved the following statement.
At EUUC, we are called to live our vision of a just and sustainable world and to promote the use of the democratic process within our congregation and in society at large. We see the democratic process of “one person one vote” being severely undermined throughout our government by private and business wealth to the extent that our government is less likely to make decisions that are just or sustainable.
We feel morally compelled to learn, educate, and act to transform our political processes to better resist the corrupting role that money plays in our government and our elections. Only by doing this will we be able to make progress in social and environmental justice issues to benefit people and our planet.
