Concern for Neighbors Food Bank
April 2017
The Sunday Offering for April will be given to the Concern for Neighbors Food Bank in Mountlake Terrace. Many churches in South Snohomish County, including EUUC, began this food bank in 1971 in the basement of a home adjacent to the current location, where five volunteers served 18 clients. Today it has its own warehouse, two trucks, two shipping containers for storage, and approximately 60 volunteers serving about 120 families per week.
Concern for Neighbors Food Bank is a member of the Snohomish County Food Bank Coalition, which consists of 20 local food banks that pool their food-purchasing dollars to help those in need. The food bank also gives financial aid to certified clients every six months for utilities and rent, plus additional help of up to $75 for those with a utility disconnect or a three-day pay-or-vacate notice.
EUUC contributes produce from the EUUC garden and fruit picked by our gleaners.
What is the Sunday Offering?
When the baskets are passed during Sunday services, people contribute cash and checks to help the recipient organization which was chosen for that month. Checks written to “EUUC” with “cause” on the memo line and all cash are tallied each Sunday. At the end of the month, a check is written for the recipient organization.
