This powerful documentary begins gently with the search for the great blue whales in the Indian Ocean–only to find plastic floating in their waters. This leads to a quest for other places and other researchers around the world showing the impact of plastics on numerous places on land and sea. Many people know something about this topic from other sources, but this film gets into how microplastics get into small fish and then work up the food chain to us. Plus, they absorb toxins which are then absorbed by the fish and those then move up the chain to us. The film ends with some positive steps being taken to reuse plastics but stresses the urgent need to stop the production of single use plastics. Its length makes it a great opportunity to have a serious discussion of the dangers posed by the massive production of single use plastics with our special guests who are both working on this issue.
Discussion follows with special guests Dr. Kriss Kevorkian and Jeni Woock
Dr. Kriss Kevorkian is a Thanatologist, Deaducator, Climate Leader, writer, and international speaker on issues of end-of-life care, environmental grief and ecological grief.
Jeni Woock is a Gig Harbor council member who is working on this issue.
