Facing Homelessness is a grassroots non profit organization that came into being by a simple act. That simple act was to face a homeless person and look beyond the stereotype. To quote the founder, Rex Hohlbein, “The negative stereotype against the homeless was not matching up to the beauty of those I was meeting.” In 2010 Rex Hohlbein, an architect designing high-end homes, began a new journey to help humanize those that were living right under his nose. To see more about their beginnings please see Rex’s TedTalk. At first there was just a Facebook page which introduced people to the unhoused neighbors in their own area. Over the next decade they evolved into a community run and supported organization to work towards ending homelessness. From their site: “To this day, Facing Homelessness honors a simple purpose: To invite all of us to come closer, and to contribute our unique passions and skills toward the effort of ending homelessness.” Currently there are three programs under the Facing Homelessness banner. The three areas are Windows of Kindness, Community Cleanups, and The Block Project. Our funds will be aimed towards their greatest need. To quote Rex Hohlbein, “Hope is everything to someone who has nothing.” Thank you for any assistance you feel inspired to give.
