Social Justice Overview
We have a legacy of “deeds not creeds.” Our work for a better world calls us to unexpected places as we harness love’s power to stop oppression.
Our justice efforts are grounded in our congregation’s mission and vision and our call to break down divisions, heal isolation, and honor the interconnectedness of all life and all justice issues. We model these commitments by creating a just, welcoming, and inclusive congregation. We act in partnership with groups and communities most impacted by injustice.
Our ministry includes service, education, advocacy, and public witness (the spiritual practice of taking a public position in support of justice).
Our congregation also takes on Social Justice Stands. These are official stands on significant issues, proposed by members and supported by our Board, and adopted by vote of our Congregation at duly called meetings.
EUUC has taken five Congregational Stands to date:
- LGBTQI Justice & Equity
- Money in Politics
- Global Warming and Climate Justice
- Racial Justice
- Reproductive Justice
EUUC’s social justice program includes five committees that coordinate their activities through the Social Justice Council. You can explore the work being done by our committees and workgroups through the links on the left.
The funding of the program comes from member pledges to Social Justice. In addition, fundraisers and plate offerings from Sunday services go directly out to organizations that further expand the impact of our justice efforts.
Both the Council and the committees are led and staffed by EUUC congregants, who select activities based on their mission and current goals.
Volunteer opportunities abound!
