Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits gender discrimination in schools that receive public funding, including K-12 schools, colleges and universities. The US Department of Education (DOE) has proposed changes to Title IX regulations that would reduce schools’ obligations when responding to sexual misconduct and turn back the clock for many survivors to a time when they had no place to turn.
