The Family Shelter has changed many lives. This is one story.
Interfaith Family Shelter is the Cause of the month for July and August. Interfaith Family Shelter offers families non-discriminatory low-barrier access to shelter and resources. Their main emergency shelter is located in downtown Everett and can accommodate up to 11 families with children at any time. Clients receive about 90 days of shelter and basic needs resources, including meals, showers, personal hygiene kits, and laundry services. Since 2009 Family shelter has served 466 families. 80% of their clients successfully transition from homelessness into permanent housing within 90 days. And 94% of those families are still housed one year later.
This incredible resource is facing closure. Since 1999, Interfaith Family Shelter has leased this building from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (Archdiocese of Seattle). The Church plans to sell the property. In order to save this resource, Interfaith has entered into a $1.6 million purchase agreement with the Catholic Church to buy the shelter and another building by November of this year. They currently need an additional $162,745. Therefore, all Sunday Offering Funds will go into the Capital Campaign Fund to purchase the shelter.
As always, if you have an organization that you wish to nominate for Sunday cause of the month, we invite you to fill out the online Sunday Cause nomination form.
