The March Cause of the month is Freedom Education Project Puget Sound (FEPPS). Freedom Education Project Puget Sound (FEPPS) is a nonprofit that provides a rigorous, accredited college program for incarcerated women, transgender, and gender nonconforming people in Washington, and supports pathways to higher education after students return to community from prison.

FEPPS provides an Associate of Arts degree accredited by Tacoma Community College and a Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree accredited by University of Puget Sound inside the Washington Corrections Center for Women (WCCW) in Gig Harbor, WA. A national pioneer in the field of higher education in prison (HEP), the organization was founded in 2012 from the energy, collaboration, and leadership of student-advocates inside and faculty outside.

Over 300 FEPPS students have completed accredited classes. Seventy-two FEPPS students have earned an AA degree and ten have completed a BA degree with the first BA graduation in June 2024. FEPPS is committed to the inherent humanity, worth, and dignity of all; no individual defined by their actions alone; the radical and transformative potential of education; and challenging and dismantling oppressive systems with the most affected people and communities at the core of that work

The funds donated by EUUC will be used for supporting direct program building and to support them in expanding its scope of information sharing and community connection by creating a national consortium/coalition of higher education in prison programs.

As always, thank you for your generous donations.
