The June Cause of the month is the University District Food Bank. University District Food Bank exists to support people experiencing food insecurity in Northeast Seattle by providing high quality food and connecting them with vital resources.
For over four decades, University District Food Bank has helped prevent hunger in Northeast Seattle neighborhoods. Each week, more than 2,200 different families receive the groceries they need to prepare nutritionally balanced, culturally relevant meals at home.
Approximately 20% of their customers are children, 3% are infants, 59% are adults, and 18% are senior citizens. In 2024 116,000+ households were served. They responded to a 70% increase in households and 130% increase in individuals served since 2022.
From their home base on Roosevelt Way NE, they have expanded their programming to better address community needs. They’ve added satellite pantries on Mercy Magnuson Place and at North Seattle College to reach new neighborhoods, expanded home delivery, taken on new partner schools through Packs for Kids, hired staff to intentionally connect customers to other community programs, and built out a rooftop farm.
The funds donated by EUUC will be dedicated to help them provide three days of healthy food to the 2,500 families who visit us each week
As always, thank you for your generous donations.
