This is a Latin American tradition that re-enacts the journey of Mary and Joseph fleeing from danger and seeking shelter in a strange land. Their story is the story of all immigrants risking everything, leaving everything that is dear to them behind, to save their lives and offer their children hope for the future. The story of Mary and Joseph is more than a reminder of biblical stories from long ago, it is a call for us as Unitarian Universalists to recommit to being a living Sanctuary. Now more than ever, our church communities must prepare to offer shelter and protect the most vulnerable among us.
