This week the Peace & Justice committee voted to add EUUC’s name to two letters:
- A letter to President Biden demanding that he use his executive authority to stop fossil fuel projects, end oil and gas drilling on public lands and waters, and declare a national climate emergency. Requested by the UUA Side with Love’s Create Climate Justice group; we join over 1000 organizations. To be sent prior to the State of the Union address.
- A faith-community letter from Earth Ministry/WAIPL to the Washington State Building Code Council (WSBCC) to update energy codes, to phase out fossil fuel heating and require electric heat pump technology for water and space heating in commercial and large multifamily buildings. This letter will be presented by March 11. Individuals are encouraged to sign, too!
- Two additional letters to the State Senate and Snohomish County Council were announced last week and can be found in the linked news article.
In 2016 EUUC members adopted the Congregational Stand on Climate Justice, which enabled the committee to vote to sign these letters on behalf of the congregation.
